Our Campaign is Up and Running!
It has been a remarkable week, and we have a long way to go to make this campaign a success. I’d like to share a bit about what I’ve been up to, how I plan to serve you and our neighbors at the Legislature, and ways you can get involved in our campaign!
Around town:
This past week I enjoyed the Franconia Sculpture Park, practiced my jump shots at the Wildcat Community Center, and spoke with community members at Coffee Talk, Romayne's and The Goat Saloon in Taylor's Falls! I attended the Chisago Lakes Area Indivisible Activism Night, and the Chisago Lakes Township Annual Meeting where Sherry Sterling won the election for Township Supervisor. I also spent a lovely evening with my partner at Interstate State Park where we saw two beautiful Bald Eagles (Migizi) fishing in the thawed waters. Our campaign was also featured on page 2 of the Chisago County Press!
Learning from the community:
I spoke with one community member who is recently married, working towards a Master's degree and who doesn't have healthcare right now because it is just too expensive. Health insurance costs to Minnesotans have increased by more than 20% on average, and according to MN Today, there are 116,000 fewer Minnesotans with healthcare this year than last year. If the Minnesota legislature doesn't intervene to reduce the fall out, we will see fewer people insured and healthcare costs will continue to rise for everyone.
I also talked to parents of Chisago Lakes Public Schools who told me that they fear for the safety of their kids in our schools. Right now, there are bills at the legislature to provide funding to some school districts for safety measures. I would advocate to ensure that that every public school in Minnesota can protect our kids, including physical safety infrastructure and mental health therapy.
I will support strong public services that will allow our community to achieve their dreams.
